Story telling especially lullabies is common art in all Gambian village families and is mostly done by aunts and grandparents. The purpose is, besides making children sleep, to ensure safety as they nestled under watchful grannies eyes. It also enable the children run short safe errands for the elderly. These stories transcend lullabies told to the elderly coming from eons of traditional storytelling ABOUT kings, chiefs, villages, tribes and animals. Some are still scary to Gambian adults who have heard them told some forty years ago. Stories you are about to browse are retold to me by Gambians who at their tender ages listened to their mothers and grannies narrate lullabies to send them to sleep or scare the dickens out of them. This work is about children’s stories that entertain age range from ten through fifty years. It comprises of riveting lullabies and Mandinka proverbs certain to keep children mesmerized and glued to the book. I write to raise funds for building of Njawara village hospital.< Less
